Happy New Year’s! my first post

hey friends!

Happy New Year! Welcome to Mixed Hues, my lil corner of the world. This is my very first post, and for reading it, you have received my eternal love and friendship.

If you haven’t already, get to me know a bit better over here. Otherwise, let’s hop right in!

Last night was December 31, 2016, aka the end of one year, and the beginning of another! As such, new year’s resolutions were made to be broken once again.

Personally, I’ve always found new year’s resolutions kind of silly. If you want to do something, why wait until January 1 to do it? Why not just do it the instant you decide you want to? If you want to get fit, get a gym membership that same week or create your own at-home plan to make that happen. Don’t be lazy. Just do it! (nike!)

After all, January 1 isn’t some magical date on which everything you once wanted to do suddenly becomes achievable. If you really want to do something, then set goals to make that happen right away. Don’t make excuses.

That said, it’s still great to set goals at any time of the year. I still have my own “resolutions” every year, although most of the time, these resolutions are necessarily goals I set just for the new year; rather, they’re goals I’ve had in the past that I intend to continue pursuing, or things I need to continue to improve upon.

So what are my goals for 2017?

Of course, I decided awhile back that I wanted to start blogging, so I set January 1, 2017 as my launch date and worked to create what you see here. So here I am in 2017 with my first ever blog post!

Beyond that, I have some specific things to do in the coming year:

  • I want to diversify my photography,
  • include more OOTD pics and flatlays in my Instagram,
  • do live videos on Instagram,
  • find a better theme for my blog that isn’t $$$$,
  • connect with other bloggers,
  • improve my GPA,
  • take better care of my body,
  • make fewer but more meaningful clothing purchases,
  • and, of course, continue dismantling the patriarchy.

It’s a bit lengthy, but I suppose if I kept going and listed everything, I’d never finish that list. After all, there’s always something I can do better.

What about you? Comment below with your own New Year’s resolutions, and let me know your thoughts on resolutions in general, too! Also, if you have your own blog, please drop it in the comments! I’d love to connect with y’all, especially now that mine is officially up!

Well, that’s it! Thanks so much for popping in and giving this a read! It means so much, especially since this is my first post. Please let me know your thoughts! What can I fix already to make this better?

Sending y’all my very best vibes for 2017!

much love,

annabelle

  1. When your wifey damns the patriarchy, but you are the patriarchy, and you know those fancy dinner reservations are going to be awkward af now.

  2. Cute first post! Love that last item on the ’17 agenda ✌🏻. As for blog themes, I found one for my blog at Etsy- they’re usually ~$15-25 and full of cool widgets and the like. Of course, you have to have a self-hosted WordPress site to use these, but it’s worth the cost in the end!

  3. I agree with Jan 1 not being a magical day to suddenly make a change. I’m so excited your blog is up and look forward to reading more from you!

  4. Get it yo!
I got a goal to drop at least one track every other week

Recommendation wise check out “S.M.A.R.T. goals”: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_criteria
The more specific you get with your goals the greater likelihood you’ll achieve them

  5. This was a GREAT first post! Loved reading! I’m a new blogger as well, so one of my resolutions I’ve made is making sure I create content every week, regardless of how busy I get since I have also recently gotten started in my career! I look forward to reading more of your stuff because I am absolutely a feminist (I actually work for the MAKERS.com editorial team and we are a site dedicated to amazing barrier-breaking/game-changing women.) But anyway haha, best of luck with your blog! You’re doing awesome so far! xo Taylor from http://www.thesprinkle.tayloramead.com

    • Ahh thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it! I’m definitely going to check out makers.com, seems like my kind of thing! I write for the Tab, and we have a Babe vertical that’s essentially a feminist vertical. Most of my contributions end up there! Best of luck to you with your own resolutions, I know content creation for me is going to be tough given my busy schedule as well, so I feel you on that!

  6. Very cool to see you launched your blog, your hype game was super strong on social media before launch!

That being said, I think it’s a little cynical when people say, “if you want to change why wait until January 1.” I feel as if resolutions are made (or at least are supposed to be made), when you take stock of the last year and decide how you want the next year to be different. Sure, it’s a little arbitrary and not every one sees it this way, but we most certainly agree that any excuse for self-improvement is a good one!

Much luck with the rest of your blogging experiment!

    • Ricardoooo thank you so much for taking the time to read this! You make a great point about the resolutions. I think what really bothers me is people making these resolutions just to make them, and not really bothering to do anything to make them happen. Eg people say they wanna get fit and then get a gym membership but never even go. What’s the point? But yes! Definitely good to always work on self-improvement, no matter the reason. Thanks a bunch, fam!
